Fresno’s evolving restaurant and café scene

From a coffeehouse in a historic water tower to new Lebanese, Korean and Thai kitchens.

If you last ate in Fresno ten years ago, you’ll find a different city now. Long-loved family restaurants are still here, and around them a new wave of cafés and kitchens has opened, many started by the same communities that make Fresno so diverse.

Cafés with character

  • Frida Café moved into downtown’s Old Water Tower, a landmark since 1894 and the first business ever to use the space.
  • Il Caffè at Enzo’s Table in northwest Clovis serves Italian espresso and a popular honey latte, with breakfast and lunch made from the Ricchiuti family’s farm produce.
  • Component Coffee Lab in the Tower District and Cafe Van Ness inside Gazebo Gardens nursery are favorites for slow mornings among plants.
  • Kuppa Joy has grown into several lively coffeehouses across Fresno and Clovis.

A wider world on the table

  • Zaatar Bistro, serving Lebanese food, was voted Fresno’s best new restaurant of 2024 in a reader poll.
  • New openings in 2025 brought Korean barbecue (Seoul Meat Co. at Fashion Fair), Thai (Satay Thai Kitchen & Bar), French-style bakery Paris Baguette and bagels at Uncle Harry’s in Fig Garden Village.
  • Mexican favorites keep growing too: Toledo’s Mexican Restaurant opened a new flagship on Cedar Avenue.

Where to start

Begin with the neighborhoods: the Tower District for patios and theater nights, downtown’s Fulton Street for restaurants and events, Fig Garden Village and River Park for easy dinners, and Old Town Clovis for a walkable evening. See our Local Cafés guide for more.

Restaurants open and close often, so check hours before you go.
